8vo. (12mo. large paper copy) pp. (xii) 394 (ii advertisements). First year of this annual, large paper issue with extra, engraved title page, the first annual to be printed both in ordinary 12mo. and in a large paper issue. Signed label “Pengellis, Mortimer & Co [etc], Old Court House Street, Calcullta., half, straight-grained light-brown morocco, hinges somewhat weak, insignificant spotting to some pages, a nice copy of one of the most influential annuals.

With 13 full-page steel engravings, printed on India paper, after popular artists of those days, engraved on steel by Charles Heath and other early practitioners of the new time-consuming technique. Literary contributions by i.a. Walter Scott, Thos. Campbell, James Montgomery and a larger number of minor writers. Although estimated to have been in 6000 copies (S. House, Dictionary of British Book Illustrators 1800-1914, p.36) the first year of this trend-setting annual seems to have been in considerable demand as early as November 1826, as the publishers advertise copies of the 1827 edition in exchanges of the unused copy of the 1826 edition (advertisement in the 1827 edition).
